Tell us about yourself:
"I am a San Diego based writer, teacher and dreamer. Originally from Connecticut, I am the founder of Imaginary Theater Company, a New Haven based theater ensemble committed to producing original plays that empower children to be the heroes of their own stories. My plays Dream Train, Mama Threw Me So High, He Who Speaks and Canary Cockroach Phoenix have been published by Drama Notebook. My creative work is currently inspired by Fred Rogers, Mary Magdalene and Meow Wolf."
When do you typically write?
"I typically write on the weekends or on my school breaks. (I am an elementary school teacher and it is hard to find the mental energy to write after a school day!)"
What three authors are on your bookshelf right now?
"Sarah Ruhl and Annie Baker (my two favorite playwrights) and Emily Winfield Martin (my favorite children’s book author/illustrator)."
What is the most challenging part of your creative process at the moment?
"At the moment the most challenging part is setting aside consistent space in my schedule to write, and enough time to open myself mentally and emotionally to the process."
What part of the craft gives you the most enjoyment?
"In playwriting, I love immersing myself in an imaginary world and then watching the characters come to life on stage. In poetry, I love sharing my work and hearing what resonates with others."
If you could get into a time machine and go back to an earlier version of yourself, what is one piece of advice you would give to yourself on writing?
"The more consistently you sit down to write, the easier it will be to write. The wrong words will bring you closer to the right ones."
What projects are you currently working on, if any?
"I just started a new play tentatively called 'The Mystery House (A Fertility Fairy Tale in 4 Seasons)'. So far the characters include a snail, a face in a stone and a porch goose."
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
"I love going for walks, seeing live theater and doing yoga."

"I drove a red truck across Montana. I used to work for the Blue Man Group. I have a dog named July."

"I have a dog named July. (In truth, I have a cat named August.)"
